Almost a year since the last blog. Im reminiscing as yesterday was the 1yr anniversary of tearing my ACl 2-16-10. Also, A lot of the teams at CSU have tried replicating the success the redshirt year and beyond had and failed. Trick number 1: Have a large family and beg them to read it and comment. Trick 2: Sell it on facebook, twitter, text message, fliers - whatever it takes. The more people that read it, the better chance someone will enjoy it. Trick 3: Speak on the perspective of a college athlete that 99 percent of people don't get a chance to experience. I write this because baseball now wants to follow in the footsteps, so the brains behind the Sports Information Department has sent him to me for advice.
As for myself, I have ventured far from my days as a CSU basketball player. I'm now the Director of Operations for the basketball team - for short the DBO. That means i went from the locker room, to a breezeway of shared office space with our graduate manger and Sloan the women's assistant. This job has MANY responsibilities and more then I could have ever imagined. Most of those responsibilities fall under the category of tasks, no one else wants to do. I went from the guy hoarding Gatorade's last year to the guy making sure the players only take one. I used to get on the bus, grab my chick fil a sandwhich and a Gatorade, and go to sleep. Now I'm the guy that makes sure all of that is done perfectly before the players arrive. I'm always at the mercy of others. I arrange all of our meals as a team. I get the guys orders and have to relay that to the restaurant. Then I spend the rest of the bus trip going over the details for the trip I already planned to make sure it goes smoothly.(at the mercy of the restaurant to have the food ready when we arrive) But when the game starts, I have made a serious upgrade on the assigned seating chart, I must add. Last year I was either in the last or next to last seat on the bench. This year I'm the second seat on the bench and can see both sides of the floor much better. GREAT UPGRADE
As far as the team goes we're .500 overall and 8-8 in the league, which puts us in a tie for 4th in the BSC. Uncharted waters for CSU basketball considering we haven't finished .500 overall since 1997, which happens to be the last time that CSU went to the Dance. Coastal was dominating our league, but has come back to reality. Three starters are out for the rest of the season. They had the longest win streak in Division I, but I believe the conference tourney is totally up for grabs now. Don't want to write to much in my first post back, mainly because that means I will have to edit that much more.(AKA find someone else to edit that much more)
Update on my boy Glenn Self. He's going to WVU and is a server assistant. That is how I make that sound professional. If you ask him he will tell you the truth: bus boy. Check him out on Twitter. Hself490 for his new ink work. Check me out at S_sweeney11 to see the days I had bounce before the ACL tear. As always i miss the NHC club. All of which have moved on Billy Blackmon, Big Pat, AJ, Glenn, and now LAMBO
